Generating Print-Ready PDFs from PageMaker 6.5 & 7
Please see the instructions below for printing a PostScript file from PageMaker 6.5 & 7, then distilling it into a PDF using Adobe Distiller.
Step 1: Choose Printer LaserWriter 8.7
- From Apple Chooser, select LaserWriter 8.7.
Step 2: File Menu | Document Setup
- Choose target resolution "2400"
Step 3: File Menu | Print | Document
- Choose PPD "Acrobat Distiller"
- Select portrait (up) Orientation
Step 4: File Menu | Print | Paper
- Choose Paper Size "Custom"
- Set width and height to 1 inch larger than your trim size to allow for bleeds and printer's marks.
- Checkmark "Printer's Marks"
- Checkmark "Crops and Bleeds Only"
- Checkmark "Page Information
- Checkmark "Center Page in Print Area"
- Set scale to 100%
Step 5: File Menu | Print | Color
- Select "Composite"
- Under "Composite" select "Color"
- Set frequency to 400 lpi
Step 6: File Menu | Print | Options
- Choose Send Image Data "Normal"
- Choose Data Encoding "Send Binary Image Data"
- Choose Download Fonts "PostScript and TrueType
- Checkmark "Write PostScript to File"
- Select "Normal"
- Click "Save As" button and input file name
- Return to Print window and click "Save" button
Step 7: Convert the PostScript to a PDF using Acrobat Distiller
- Lauch Acrobat Distiller
- Select Default option "PDF/X-3:2002". It is very important to choose this default!
- Open and distill your PostScript file:
- From File Menu, select "Open"
- Browse for your PostScript ( ".ps" ) file
- Acrobat will immediately begin generating a PDF with the same filename, and a .PDF extension.
Note: if your document is all spot colors, change the Standards setting in Distiller NOT to enforce compliance.
To do this:
- In Distiller, choose "Settings | Edit Adobe PDF Settings"
- Click the "Standards" folder
- Select Compliance Standard "None"
- Save settings as "Offset-Spot.joboptions"
